Not only that it is even better that you realize that you need to have quit smoking plans in order to be able to reach your goal of not smoking and become a healthier person. There are many things that may have instigated the decision to get on board with quit smoking plans.
The first thing you need to do is develop your quit smoking plans and then you need to take action. The first step to developing such a plan is to analyze how bad your habit has gotten. If you feel self conscious about this – that is okay, you do not have be completely honest with others about your habits but you do need to be honest with yourself. If you are a heavy chain smoker and completely dependent on cigarettes then you need to spend time understanding that quitting cold turkey is probably going to lead to a relapse that was worse than your previous addiction.
So the next step in your plan should be to reduce the number of cigarettes slowly. At the start of this process you will want to only smoke the bare minimum of cigarettes possible. This is like testing the water and seeing if you can still be comfortable with two packs or two and a half packs instead of the over indulgence of smoking three packs. As time goes on and you get used to smoking a smaller amount of cigarettes try reducing the amount of cigarettes per day by half a pack. Do this monthly until you are only down to one pack a day.
Next you will want to begin to quit smoking that single packet of cigarettes and this is going to be the hardest part of your quit smoking plans. The best thing to do when you feel like you need that extra cigarette is to chew gum or journal about how you feel. Watch TV or look for a distraction from your cravings. Keep your hands, mind and mouth busy by going to lunch with your nonsmoking friends.
Just to recap if you want your quit smoking plans to go smoothly then you will need to sit down and draw up a plan. Decide how many cigarettes you want to cut out each day, week and month. Then you need to stick to your plan and put it into action. Remember that when you get down to the wire, indulging with friends who do not smoke is a good distraction as is journaling and chewing gum when you get a bad craving.
