Positive thoughts- Positive thoughts lead to positive actions. Self-motivation is key to success. Call in the support of friends and family, you will need them now more than ever. Don't be dismayed by a couple of setbacks and negativity.
Celebrate- Celebrate every milestone of your quitting process. Treat yourself to perfume, chocolates or a movie with every week or month that goes by smoke-free. It is a huge accomplishment, so pat yourself on the back in the form of spoiling.
Visit your doctor- It is very important to involve your physician with your smoke quitting journey. Support and guidance from a doctor is proven to increase your chances of quitting successfully. Get a proper check-up before quitting and then about a month after your last cigarette.
Fluids- Keep your body hydrated by drinking lots of water and juice. Coffee and tea should be consumed to a minimum as it can increase cravings. Nicotine breaks down caffeine so the more caffeine you drink the more it will stay in your body as there is no nicotine to counteract it's stimulating effect anymore. Alcohol should be avoided entirely the first couple of months after quitting as this can increase cravings substantially.
Be active- Staying active will not only assist with flushing the toxins out of your body faster but will help you feel much more relaxed and increase the cell recovery turn-around time significantly. Take it easy at first as your body needs to get use to the activity as well as coping without cigarettes and related chemicals. This in another facet of the quitting process that your doctor will be very helpful in developing a suitable exercise programme and diet for your individual needs.
